About This Course

This exciting course provides a comprehensive assessment and management of security systems. Equipping security practitioners and managers with what should be in a risk management strategy, the course provides knowledge of information security management best practice to help individuals, families or organisations defend themselves from threats.

Students will be able to analyze the enabling factors of recent attack incidents and discuss the basic security services for their defence and triage. Trust is critical and in the centre of any security system.

Students will learn how to examine the source and authenticity of the programs and data installed in systems used daily and show the proper way to check their integrity, and verify their authenticity. It is suitable for students seeking a career in the security department or those that want to start a modern security business.

Learning Objectives

Installation and configuration
Install and configure CCTV, alarm, access control, and audio systems.
Set up wired and wireless networks to support security systems, including IP and PoE.
Install structured cabling for voice, data, and video applications according to industry standards.
Configure security system components, including central management systems, and program access control readers and door hardware.
Planning and project management
Plan and coordinate security system installations, from residential to commercial projects.
Conduct site surveys and client consultations to determine requirements.
Prepare work plans and estimates according to client specifications and instructions.
Complete all necessary documentation related to the installation.
Maintenance and troubleshooting
Perform routine maintenance, such as software updates, hardware checks, and component replacement.
Diagnose and troubleshoot faults in CCTV and alarm systems.
Conduct functionality tests during handover to ensure system integrity.
Safety and compliance
Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) procedures and risk control.
Comply with electrical codes and Australian Standards where applicable.
Follow safety requirements for the performance of work and understand electrical and fire safety.
